Ecolab’s Textile Care division in Croatia won second place for excellence in applying chemical leasing to a cleaning process in the Case Studies category of this year’s Global Chemical Leasing Awards organized by United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
More than a decade ago, UNIDO started to work together with the Austrian government on a state-of-the-art business model, called chemical leasing. In 2006 and 2010 the German and Swiss governments joined the initiative as well. The idea behind this new business model reflects the trend across industries of paying for a service rather than a product. Customers do not purchase barrels of chemicals, but rather the performance that those chemicals provide, changing the game for both chemical producers and users. Because profits are no longer driven by a greater volume of chemicals sold, but rather on less, the chemical leasing business model promotes environmental preservation and doing more with less.
The team in Croatia won the award for implementing the chemical leasing business model at the Valamar laundry in Porec, with the laundry itself taking home the gold. Receiving the award was Tvrtko Brkovic, Cluster Sales Manager for Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia. “This is what we do every day and strongly believe in at Ecolab. We are doing more with less, we believe in co-creation of mutual value with respect to the environment,” said Tvrtko. “I am so glad that our partner, laundry Valamar, was awarded with gold. Over the past 10 years we’ve worked hard together to implement the most environmentally friendly approach in terms of chemistry and water and energy use.”
EU Ecolabel-certified washing program OxyGuard40 is one among many water and energy optimization projects implemented by Ecolab and Valamar which serve to not only save the laundry money but also preserve the beauty of its surrounding environment, the coast of the Adriatic Sea.
The UNIDO award ceremony was hosted as a part of the Green Chemistry Conference held in Vienna, Austria.
